Giotto's Prediction Blogs: Inosuke Hashibira vs Jinnosuke (Demon Slayer vs Afro Samurai)

(Thumbnail by T0m)

Inosuke Hashibira, Tanjiro’s Boar-Headed companion and self proclaimed King of the Mountains.

Jinnosuke/ Kuma, Afro's Cybernetical Rival and Brother.

When it comes to hiding a facet of yourself, the symbolisms usually attribute it to the well-known masks, which prevent seeing a reality, some of them very charismatic and enigmatic at first glance, but behind something unexpected.

Both swordsmen are known for their two-sword fighting style, hailing from a fierce time for Japan, where it was kill or be killed. You may recognize them by their hilarious and exaggerated animal masks, but that doesn't mean you should underestimate them one bit, as they have proven countless times that they can match or even far surpass their respective friends, brothers, and sword comrades Tanjiro and Afro. Making a symbolism and honor to those who saw them grow through their masks, have it be the case of one who grew up with wild boars and in the depths of forest, or who recognizes a very special person from their orphanage times.

Could it then be that the beastly demon hunter can demonstrate his power against Jinno? Or on the contrary, will Kuma show that it doesn't matter what, he will finish off Inosuke, if it is about pursuing his revenge?

Come with us to discover it in this premiere of.... GIOTTO'S BLOGS.

Before we start, is a point to make clear that the versions used for both characters are respectively: Anime and Manga for Inosuke (Same story, better visuals for anime), Anime, Manga and Games for Jinno (They all tell the same story, with some minor changes but all considered canon)

Background

Inosuke Hashibira

(“If Hell doesn’t exist, I’ll create it for you! That's enough of your crap!! don’t say my mother was miserable, you bastard!!”)

Somewhere in Taisho-era Japan, Inosuke was born to a mother who was constantly abused and bullied by her husband and mother-in-law due to his excessive crying. So she took her infant and fled out of home to protect him. On her way out she eventually found a cult that would keep them in safety led by a man named Doma. This was until she found his dark secret, he was not a Man but a Demon who ate his most devoted followers. She fled in an attempt to protect her child, until she was backed into a corner and as a last ditch effort, threw the baby Inosuke off a cliff to save him. Witnessing his mother being murdered by Doma as he fell and forgot about the event.

Believed to be dead by Doma, Inosuke fell to a river where he was later found and raised in the wild by a family of Boars where many of his senses and aggressive behaviors were developed, almost like a Japanese Tarzan but less nicer. Inosuke soon grew attached to the Boar Mother and wore her head as a memento when she passed away and encountered an old man who taught him how to speak like humans.

When Inosuke grew and beat up a Demon Slayer he found out about the Final Selection, an exam meant for those who seek to be recognized by the Demon Slayer Corps as official Demon Slayers. He became one of the five ones to survive the test, being the very first to quickly cross and cut his way through and back the whole demon-infested mountain of the group.

Officially now recognized as a Demon Slayer, Inosuke eventually met Tanjiro and fought him after he attempted to kill his now-demon sister. The two later fought until Tanjiro LITERALLY bashed him into reason with his hard headed stubbornness, coming to an understanding Inosuke joined Tanjiro along with Zenitsu to set out on a quest to heal his sister, and defeat the one who spawned this Demon plague in the first place.

Jinnosuke

(“Good… i’m glad you lasted this long. I want you to die slowly…. i want you to burn, bleed, suffer as i have.”)

In his childhood, Jinnosuke was part of an orphanage along with different children who were arranged under the care of the Sword Master, to be disciplined in the ways and the samurai code, all very united with the purpose of advancing in life, including very important people like his younger sister Sio, and one of his mates Otsuru. One day, close by they met a new member who had also been abandoned, this being nothing more and nothing less than a black-skinned boy, whom they nicknamed Afro. Jinno from a young age always had impeccable swordsmanship, being quite agile, which made him admired by Afro in his training, although Jinno always recognized his ability as well, forming a great bond between brothers based on respect and trust. Saving each other's skins when needed, this until time passed and motivated to continue his path of revenge no matter what Jinno said, Afro betrayed his Sword Master and thereby massacred the entire dojo, leaving Jinnosuke stunned. and with enormous resentment, and yet he preferred to commit suicide by throwing himself from several meters towards sharp rocks.

Some time later, thanks to Dr. Dharman's advanced technology, Jinno was rebuilt as a cyborg, replacing several of the parts that were injured, and acquiring a very peculiar mask based on the stuffed bear that Otsuru used to carry with her all time. From here Jinno would be known as Kuma, and not stopping on his revenge to finish off the one who he once considered brother.

Equipment

Inosuke Hashibira

Dual Nichirin Swords

Made of Scarlet Crimson Iron Sand and Scarlet Ore, Nichirin Blades can absorb sunlight and so are the only weapons to effectively be able to decapitate a demon’s neck to negate their healing due to their weakness to it. Inosuke took them for himself after he beat a Demon Slayer and these became blue gray-colored after he received a new pair.

Notably, Inosuke has chipped these blades with his own personal design as he prefers to fully rip and tear through Demons. Though this has shown to break the blades more easily against tougher opponents.

Boar Head

A memento of his deceased boar mother that Inosuke always wears that hides his feminine face.

Jinnosuke

Dual Katanas

As a swordsman from very long, Jinno is equipped with a pair of very durable katanas.

Motorcycle

Having joined his sister Sio and Professor…. Dharman, Jinno was given a Chopper Motorcycle. Which has great power and speed, most likely 338 mph (Just as a quick glance) or over 543 km/h. For context the fastest bike ever done can go at 273 mph.

Abilities

Inosuke Hashibira

Swordsmanship

Although he was not formally trained from what we know of, Inosuke regardless very quickly became adept and talented at swordsmanship prior to joining the final selection. Inosuke himself prefers to swing in all sorts of directions and is also complemented with his own senses; becoming very good at defense. This mix of attack and defense is enough to match skill to that of Tanjiro or Hashiras(higher ranked Demon Slayers), who have a talented level of swordsmanship.

Enhanced Touch and Senses

Ever since he’s lived in the mountains, Inosuke’s obtained an incredible and sensitive sense of touch. As a result, his skin is able to pick up small vibrations in the air, allowing him to anticipate attacks from any direction and counteract them so even if he’s not looking, he will know you’re there so long as you’re looking at him with an intent to kill and what part of his body you will be aiming at. This sense is also just not for combat exclusively, it can be used to sense demons even when they’re hiding, see things as incredibly thin as Rui’s webs, faint chills in the air or see vital weaknesses in an enemy. As a result, it makes Inosuke great at mixing both offense and defense.

Flexibility

Inosuke is unnaturally flexible, capable of bending his body in ways that are completely impossible for a normal human to even reach. This flexibility allows him to be unpredictable in combat with kicks, tackles, dig and fit through holes underground like a boar or shifting the position of his organs to avoid a fatal stabbing to his heart from a poisonous sickle, ‘tis so far as Tanjiro telling him that he fights. To quote. Like “a four legged beast.”

Beast Breathing

Created by Inosuke while he was living in the mountains, Beast Breathing is a breathing style that focuses on the movements, attacks, and senses of wild animals and their unpredictable nature.

  • First Fang: Pierce - Inosuke stabs his opponent in the neck using both of his blades.

  • Second Fang: Slice - Inosuke performs a double slash with both of his blades, creating an X-shaped cut.

  • Third Fang: Devour - Inosuke performs a horizontal slash with both of his blades in order to decapitate his target.

  • Fourth Fang: Slice ‘n’ Dice - Using both of his blades, Inosuke executes multiple diagonal slashes in order to slice ‘n’ dice his enemies.

  • Fifth Fang: Crazy Cutting - Inosuke slices everything around him while in mid-air. It’s most effective when he is surrounded by enemies.

  • Sixth Fang: Palisade Bite - Utilizing both of his blades, Inosuke simultaneously slices his enemy from both directions like a saw.

  • Seventh Fang: Spatial Awareness - Ever since he’s lived in the mountains, Inosuke’s obtained an incredible and sensitive sense of touch. With this, Inosuke can tell the location of his enemies while also feeling their weaknesses through small disturbances in the air. This technique was strong enough, that it could locate every demon spread out on an entire mountain.

  • Eighth Fang: Explosive Rush  - At blinding speeds, Inosuke charges towards his opponent while also ignoring all incoming attacks.

  • Ninth Fang: Extending Bendy Slash - By dislocating all of the joints in his arm, Inosuke is able to increase the range of his attack before quickly striking forward.

  • Tenth Fang: Whirling Fangs - By quickly spinning both of his swords in a circular motion, Inosuke is able to deflect any enemy attacks coming at him.

  • Sudden Throwing Strike - An improvisation technique created by Inosuke during his fight with Doma. In a quick movement, he can throw both of his blades in a spinning motion to strike his enemy.

Total Concentration Breathing

Total Concentration Breathing is a beginner’s technique which allows the user to match the strength of a demon as a human by accelerating one’s blood flow and heartbeat. Initially, Inosuke was implied to be unable to use it for prolonged amounts of time as he would quickly tire out, but after training 24/7 along with Zenitsu in The Butterfly Mansion for a total of 9 days. He quickly mastered a variant called Total Concentration: Constant, which improves one’s lung capacity and general fitness as well as stopping bleeding.

Repetitive Action

A technique which allows one to open all senses. As its name implies, by repeating a set of predetermined actions like for example, recalling a memory of anger and repeating a phrase/chant or, in Inosuke’s case well… remembering the Tempura he ate and repeatedly screaming “BOAR RUSH!!!!” while carrying logs and pushing boulders, Can increasingly raise one’s own concentration and draw all the physical powers from their body for longer periods.

Jinnosuke

Swordsmanship

Being an orphan adopted by a sword master, Jinno received quite remarkable training over several years, being that in his time he was much more skilled than Afro himself, having the classic Kendo style, combining it with a two-sword style ,mostly uses them in a way so he can block and attack at the same time, showing to be very versatile. Even if he somehow loses one arm or one sword, he can still fight just fine

Combat Styles

With the help of chips, Jinno is capable of changing between 3 different fighting styles mid-fights.

  • Kuma Style - Jinno's already mentioned fighting style

  • Afro Style - Salvaged from the remains of the Afro Droid, this style lets him utilize Afro's own kenjutsu, a more combat focused fighting style that allows him to deflect projectiles.

  • Master Style - The fighting style of Jinno's adoptive father and mentor, this style allows for long ranged combo attacks

Cyborg Body

After literally being slaughtered at the hands of several swordsmen, and throwing himself off a cliff. Jinno was rebuilt with mechanical parts thanks to Professor Dharman, making him a much more proficient fighter who doesn't tire out as easily, due to his renewed strength and durability. Replacing one of his eyes with a bionic one that allows him to see with the same accuracy that he needs, plus a breathing system that makes him sound like Darth Vader. He can even be reprogrammed to not let his feelings matter at all, one of the things as well that comes in hand with his cyborg body is his self destruction method, where after activated he ends up blowing up.

Weaknesses

Inosuke Hashibira

For someone who was raised in the wilderness and the only proper education he had was just from an old man reading to him, you DEFINITELY wouldn’t expect this boar headed Mowgli to be the sharpest tool in the shed. Given he often lacks things such as common sense or doesn’t know certain things, leading him into risky and life-threatening situations by LITERALLY heading first into fights with demons without much of a plan or thought. By his own words, thinking isn't usually his style.

Jinnosuke

His cyborg body may have helped him overcome death in multiple times and enhancing his strength to no mere human’s, but just as expected, while he can endure a lot of pain and torture, any small malfunction or damage to the vital parts of the system can basically screw him a lot at the time of realizing any move, and also his self destruction. His style chips can be disabled if he receives enough damage or if he’s shocked.

Summary

Inosuke Hashibira

Advantages:

  • +Notably stronger

  • +Breathing styles gives him more variety/range in attacks and techniques

  • +Senses help him greatly, potentially overcoming Jinno’s attack and defense with his own just merely by sensing killing intent.

  • +Flexibility would make him more unpredictable in combat and survive fatal stabbings

  • +Could potentially spot Jinno’s own weakness with his life support and attack it

  • +Pretty as hell wtf

Disadvantages:

  • -Notably slower

  • -Not as resilient when it comes to taking pain

  • -Less disciplined and skilled as a sword fighter

  • -A bit too much of an idiot, so he could initially be overwhelmed

Jinnosuke

Advantages:

  • +Notably faster

  • +Tougher at times of willpower and endurance.

  • +Notably better training and spent years training as a swordsman

  • +Better brief mobility via his bike(it’s really cool)

  • +With his chips, knows a wider variety of sword styles.

  • =His offense and defense based style allows him to keep up with Inosuke’s own.

Disadvantages:

  • -Notably weaker

  • -Under times of desperation becomes more careless and is more susceptible to stabbing

  • -Self destruct wouldn’t be able to kill Inosuke

  • -Enough damage to his life support at the back of his neck will eventually cause him to die

  • -Cyborgfication fucked his face up bruh i’m sorry Jinno you stood no chance (It’s Jinnover)

  • -Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma

Verdicts

Giotto

First blog, how exciting. The owner of these projects had to be the face in saying who wins in his opinion obviously. I'll get to the point with the first aspect: Strength, if you read briefly through its stats you will notice that Demon Slayer had a feat adapted a while ago which is Gyutaro's enormous attack that devastated the Yoshiwara district with his blood ability, to be exact on numbers, 2.4 kilotons, with this I am sure to guarantee a clear advantage in strength, no matter what feat you try to scale Jinno at, the maximum being around 249 tons at 561, which leaves Jinno at a disadvantage of 4x in favor of Inosuke.

Speed however changes everything, Jinno is definitely faster at least in terms of reactions if we assume that he is even with Afro, who has his Afro Droid laser feat, 31% speed of light against Muichiro’s Mach 2630 is an absurd amount. But will this be enough? This is where I say no, no matter how much speed advantage Jinno has, in the long run he is the one who will come out the worst due to his cyborg body which is too vulnerable, his determination is not to be discarded out by any means, but Inosuke is literally capable of withstanding more severe damage and helped by his intense body training across all his life,, Daki’s poison didn’t make much and given how Demon Slayer’s breathings work, helps as well with improving your overall health, he’s definitely the one standing at the end more times than not.

It is true that Jinno has the ability to copy techniques with his chips, but even giving him the Master's style, his range is no different from, say, Muzan, whose tentacles can destroy buildings in one fell swoop and Inosuke has managed to combat them. Normally I consider anyway that at least Jinno isn't exactly traveling at the same speed as he reacts, and his slightly good options are Professor Dharman's motorcycle, but it doesn't really seem like something that poses any real danger anymore when it can be easily destroyed if Inosuke uses his Fifth Fang which gives him good defense and attack at the same time or just gets helped due the range he can smell at, given how brute Inosuke is, it's also not like Jinno should be able to anticipate a tactic or the like as his training has taught him, he would be having a difficult time against someone unpredictable, technically if it weren't for his attachment, Afro with his dirty play techniques should have swept the floor with Jinno.

A good hit from Inosuke can also trigger Jinno's self-destruction. So there's not much that can be done, overall because of his stamina, strength, barbaric spirit and generally sharper senses, Inosuke wins this fight in a clean cut.

T0m

(yes i know who freddy fastbear is)

First things first, before I go over who wins. Let me thank my friend Giotto first for letting me work alongside him in this first blog, and possibly even more in the future. I've been interested in covering this match for a while ever since I got into Demon Slayer and Inosuke became one of my instant favorites, re-watching Afro Samurai made me more interested in Jinno. So this match is a little personal for me, letting fluff aside let’s get into it.

Abilities

(art by yours, truly)

Without getting into stats first, both Jinno and Inosuke are incredibly skilled dual wielding Swordsmen who prioritize on attack and defense, along with being fairly good hand to hand combatants as shown by their fights with Afro and Tanjiro. With Jinno having an advantage in Experience, Fighting styles and discipline by actually having trained as a swordsman from childhood and implied to have fought for longer with his reputation on Revenge of Kuma, but Inosuke despite not being trained and kind of an Idiot is no slouch himself. Having created his own breathing style altogether despite having no formal training as a swordsman or Demon Slayer, taking on and defeating Upper-Ranked demons like Daki or Doma who have centuries of experience taking on or killing several Hashiras and also being trained by the same Hashira later on in the series who are exceptionally skilled in swordsmanship, so even with that Inosuke had similar skill feats or had fought along/trained with people from a similar skill level to close the gap. Later on in the series, Inosuke also gets a bit over his more straightforward dumbass approach and becomes decently tactical in his own right like how he avoided inhaling Doma’s powder. So it’s not like he will keep on that “BOAR RUSH!!!!!!” mindset forever.

Now this is where I think Inosuke starts getting several advantages, while Jinno is ABSOLUTELY a threat up close with a focus on attack and defense, along with his three Combat Chips giving him the combat skills of Afro and Swordmaster and theoretically the ability to copy the capabilities of other opponents like how the Afro Droid did with Afro. His approach is a lot more straightforward and it’s not like he could just copy Breathing Techniques with Inosuke’s wider pool of skills taken into account. With such techniques as Crazy Cutting slicing in all sorts of directions, his Sixth Fang slicing from both directions at the neck or Ninth Fang bending and extending his arm, he can get around or match Jinno’s general range even with Swordmaster’s chip. His flexibility is also like no one else Jinno has fought, shifting the position of his organs to avoid a stabbing to the heart or bending his body to attack, kick or tackle in directions Jinno wouldn’t expect. And his biggest advantage, his senses. These senses have allowed him to avoid the aforementioned fatal stabbings, see attacks coming in any direction, spot all the demons within a forest range and where they’ll be aiming so long as there’s any hostility(which Jinno is full of). So it’s not like they’ll fail here.

Stats and Endurance

Now, this is where it gets tricky when taking their stats into account and what makes this matchup fairly debatable. While Inosuke scales to his pals like Tanjiro or Zenitsu who can dodge or blitz lightning, being Mach 280. Jinno has kept up and beaten Afro up more than once, who blocked that lightspeed laser from the Afro Droid(31.6% SOL, Relativistic), even taking Muichiro’s fish slicing feat into account(Mach 2360, MHS+). He’d be notably faster enough to blitz, so what gives? couldn’t Jinno take his own advantage to outspeed Inosuke and his senses? if Inosuke was weaker or close enough, Yes. But in my opinion, Inosuke is a bit too strong for Jinno to even harm.

Now, the two don’t exactly have the greatest direct AP feats. So they both have to rely on their scaling to determine their peaks, let’s go over Jinno’s scaling to Afro first. Afro at his peak could contend with Dhar-Mann’s various androids, the first one Afro Droid could destroy a roof of a temple and disperse this cloud formation with a massive beam with both feats coming at 105/249.6 tons of TNT(Multi City Block Level). While scaling Afro to the laser this is debatable for some, I personally accept it for the moment. Afro also survived getting dragged through a building by this cyborg, getting to 65.1/561.7 tons of TNT at max(City block to Multi City Block).

In comparison, let’s scale Inosuke to several of the Upper Ranked demons he helped defeat. The first is that son of a bitch Doma, who even while weakened froze a lot of air to create that giant ice statue. Coming around at 70.1/458 tons of TNT.(City Block/Multi City Block) and earlier on in the series, Gyutaro with his strongest Blood Demon Art could destroy the Yoshiwara District. With the estimated size of 266 meters long and 355 meters wide, this feat would be around 2.4 Kilotons of TNT(Small Town). This would make at least Inosuke roughly 4x or 5x times stronger with the highest ends for Jinno, if not more considering different ends for Jinno or upscaling for both if you want to go that way. Even his self-destruct wouldn’t even be able to damage Inosuke and leave Jinno helpless.

And while sure, Jinno’s cyborg body is strong and he has some really tough willpower powering through from some life ending injuries(such as losing his lower half, being stabbed or his arm). This doesn’t make him exactly invincible, as shown when opponents like the clone of Afro’s father, Rokutaro. Overpowered him far beyond any pain he could bear and left him six feet under. Inosuke may not be as tough when it comes to tougher injuries, but he has survived similar stabbings to the chest, broken his bones and survive/resist Gyutaro’s poison(for reference, his poison upon stabbing can kill people by poisoning the heart and make people who have CRAZY resistance to poison be affected.) so he could last long enough to tire out Jinno and deal a finishing blow.

So while Jinno was indeed faster in reactions and wouldn’t certainly give up. He lacked in any way to get through Inosuke’s strength and durability, always predictably played into Inosuke’s favor by going up close and personal, Inosuke had a similar wild barbaric willpower and his talents couldn’t stack up to Inosuke’s senses or crazy flexibility. All in all, as stub-boar-n as Jinno was to bear the pain. Inosuke was just hogging the spotlight.

Rina Antiqua

Match is cool, I like both series and especially both characters involved.

Something I think requires emphasizing is the speed gap between the two. Muichiro’s feat can get a bit lower but I’ll be generous and use the current calc, which gets to around Mach 2360, well into MHS+. However, Afro blocking the laser from the Afro Droid gets at least 31% the speed of light with room for higher. For comparison, Mach 2360 is about 0.27% the speed of light. That’s roughly a 115x speed gap, and at that rate Jinno is running circles around Innosuke. Innosuke upscales from Muichiro, sure, but to what extent is unquantifiable, and certainly not enough to overcome such a gap. On the flip side, Innosuke does have a solid AP advantage scaling to Gyutaro’s 2 kiloton blast, which is higher than even the Afro Droid’s 249 tons feat, though barely enough to not be a one shot. This is where I believe Jinno can hold a key victory.

In one of Demon Slayer’s more notable fights, several characters battle Kokushibo, and it’s repeatedly hammered home he’s far stronger than them.

Yet even despite all that, these characters were capable of damaging Kokushibo with their blades/sharp weapons.

It seems like there’s precedent that even weaker characters in verse are capable of harming stronger ones, and keep in mind these fighters eventually killed Kokushibo and cut off his neck. This isn’t the only example, as Rengoku, in his fight with the stronger Akaza, was capable of slicing his neck and almost decapitating it. Hell, Tanjiro even managed to stab Akaza with his sword, and this was before their proper battle near the end of the series where Tanjiro got much stronger. So it’s reasonable to say that despite any power gap Innosuke could have, one fatal slash from Jinno can end the fight (and the same goes vice versa).

This is where I would side with Jinno. With a large speed disadvantage, Innosuke is not going to land any strikes at that rate, and he’s barely going to process Jinno’s movements and attacks at such high speeds, even with his heightened sences. On the flip, Jinno is going to be seeing the boar fighter in slow motion, and have more than enough time to dodge all of his attacks while being able to land several of his own. Jinno’s greater combat training and swordsman experience means he’ll also know where to strike a fatal blow, and he has plenty of time (and chances) to do it. One good sword swing is all both fighters need to win this bout, and in my opinion, Jinno has the better odds at that.

Winner

Team Inosuke (4): Giotto, T0m, SuperMarioAndy, JustADude

Team Jinno (2): Z1, Rina Antiqua.

Thanks to anyone who manages to read this! This was an intense work of many friends, so support for this will be appreciated!
